Team 663 is the Robotics team of Whitinsville Christian School. Our club was started in 2000 with the values of Faith, Courage, Honor, and Nobility. These ideals guide our participation in the robotics events that we compete in. Along with these four values is the idea of Gracious Professionalism, the main value of FIRST. What is FIRST? FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recgnition of Science and Technology." It is an annual robotics competition started by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway. The competition's purpose is to provide a way for high-school students to become interested in engineering. How does the competition work? We recieve the rules for the year's game in early January (this year, Jan. 3rd) and we have six weeks to design, build, program, and test a robot to compete in the game. The 2009 game, Lunacy, features a playing surface covered in a hard, slippery plastic, resulting in very little friction between the robot and the floor. Watch a short animated video describing this year's game. |
